My History
Now a little bit about me, My Name is Karen and I am owned by FOUR shelties and FIVE cats!
All are rescues but two of the shelties. I raised them from puppyhood and they made me realize how important it was to do whatever I could to make their lives and any others I could make a difference in, Better!
All four of my furkids have had medical issues and some very serious ones. My Dudley (my first) had a Femoral Head Osteotomy at 8 months. My first rescue, I have two was Jakey and I was told he had Dermatomyositis (DM) or sheltie skin syndrome. This concerned me until I got as much info as I could. Then I knew he was suppose to live here with me.
I could not have dogs for quite some time as I was quit ill, In fact I was told I had 3 years to live, its been about 9 now! I have been so close to death that the door was almost shut, this has happened on more than one occasion. Since I was sick so long and so young I never was able to have children.
I had a lung transplant in July of 1996, I have a genetic illness that destroyed my lungs, as if that weren't enough some rare problems came up during the transplant and again I beat death, I survived but not without some need for serious time to becoming strong. They say, about some things you have to pay your dues. Well I paid mine for the next million years!! As it turns out I still have no lungs to really talk about, But I am the exception in many cases people have wonderful lives. I am not saying mine ain't but its much harder than most. I take immune suppressant drugs and this is why I was so concerned about Jakey me DM dog.
But once read that many times they use the same drugs that I use, I knew he belonged to me. A few months after Jakey our rescue and second sheltie I told the hubby I wanted a blue merle girl. We searched and found a few breeders then in March of 2000 Dayka came home. She has also had some medical issues and right now its a waiting game with her. We are hoping no surgery is necessary. But will do what we have to.
I was quite happy with three and then along came Georgey, I monitor many sheltie boards or list. Its wonderful friendship and information. One day a post came through about this dog, that he was biting her children and all they could do was put him to sleep. Well this got the keyboards tapping. After a few weeks of emails, post and phone calls. Georgey came into our home. Poor fellow had been through so much and on top of it he also had a medical problem we have yet to discover. But we will. He basically itched all over his body. He was in misery. We have it controlled right now and are looking for the route. This mean biting loving boy was in pain. Alot of it. He is so loving and he constantly wags his tail even when he is in agony.
I believe God is guiding these furkids to my doorstep because he knows that I understand their plight. I have been there and I know what it is like to have friends and loved ones leave you. I also spend a great deal of time with lung patients spreading my experience and my NEVER GIVE UP always poistive attitude.
So through my four furkids I found many many friends and through that I started this list for lost dogs. Knight made me worry about who would help me if God forbid I need it?
